The following comes from Kosherwine.com:
The hot climate of the Negev Desert would seem an unlikely place for fine wine, but more and more Israeli winemakers are learning how to bring forth great grapes from the dry sands, rocks, and hills of this semi-arid region. Using special techniques including drip irrigation, Kadesh Barnea near the Sinai border is one of the new Israeli wineries learning to master grape growing in the Negev. We’ve also just added the new Fusion series from Segal’s. The Fusion wines are soft, fruit forward wines meant for early drinking.
Kadesh Barnea Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
In 2000, the boutique Kadesh Barnea winery was born in the Negev Desert, specializing in rich, full-bodied wines which showcase the distinctive, unique taste of Negev grapes. This Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied and spicy, with hints of black cherry and plum fruits, together with notes of green olives, herbs, and chocolate. The wine has a rounded mouthfeel, with forward fruit on the palate and a strong finish. Kadesh Barnea Cabernet has been aged 18 months in 10 percent French and 90 percent American oak barrels. Look for a deep garnet hue, with a nose of tobacco, herbs and cherries. Best served with steaks, prime rib, rack of veal, lamb chops or pasta with a hearty beef Ragout.
Kadesh Barnea Merlot 2004
This Merlot is packed with cherry and mixed berry flavors along with a hint of spice, dark chocolate and a long finish from the 14 months of aging in 10 percent French and 90 percent American oak barrels. Deep crimson hue. Medium-bodied. Excellent with poultry, pasta and beef dishes. Recommended with lamb or roast veal.
