Winn-Dixie Opens Kosher Deli-Bakery in Florida Store
APRIL 17, 2007 — JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Winn-Dixie will open the company’s second kosher deli in Florida, at its Tamarac location tomorrow. The store will additionally feature Winn-Dixie’s first-ever kosher bakery. Both the deli and bakery will operate under the supervision of Star-K.
The opening celebration will include a bread-breaking ceremony by Rabbi Mendy Engel of Chabad of Tamarac and a performance by students from the Hebrew Academy Community School. Challah bread, baked treats, and wine will be served, followed by kosher product sampling throughout the day.
“Our research reflected a greater need for kosher selection within the Tamarac community,” noted Winn-Dixie specialty foods category manager Deborah Shapiro in a statement. “Winn-Dixie’s goal is to customize each store to meet the needs of its neighborhood, and we feel this store is now better positioned to serve our kosher customers. This store will be our first to offer a kosher hot case where customers can personalize their menu.”
Run by kosher managers Alex Schwartzman and Moshe Berger, the new deli and bakery will offer many traditional selections.
According to Winn-Dixie, the location has undergone major upgrades to accommodate the kosher deli, which features a cold station for sliced meats and salads, a hot station for meal solutions, and a catering and sandwich station. There is also a self-serve area for packaged kosher deli items. The bakery carries both Pas Yisroel/pareve and dairy products, with all products clearly marked for shoppers.
The kosher bakery hours are Sunday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and deli hours are Sunday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (The deli is closed on Saturday.)
