ONCE MORE- PESACH: A LOOK BACK

Twenty years ago, we wrote in what was then the Kosher Nexus Newsletter: Regarding braces (teeth, not suspenders), although the temptation to say boil them is very strong, we hope no one will attempt that. Just clean them.

At that time, some people felt we were too irreverent. My how times have changed! Before we explain, we need to also add that a sarcasm font as well as a “just kidding” font would be rather helpful from time to time.

We read an article written by a local Jerusalem dentist that featured the following:
You cleaned the INSIDE (caps ours) of your toilet tank. You boiled your door knobs. But what about the braces on your teeth? No one should every attempt to boil them!

Admittedly, it is hard to know when a writer is being silly. Boiled the door knobs? Cleaned inside the toilet tank? Kidding, no? We have to say, even when our kids were little, we never found anything inside the toilet tank. And as for the door knobs, a simple wipe with a schmattah dipped in cleaning fluid would suffice.

The article went on to say that one should stop eating chametz such as bagels a few days before Pesach. The dentist even suggested that a trip to his office was the best way to prep for Pesach.

We do not disagree, but we did find it a tad self serving………
