When we were growing up, after the morning minyan and again on Shabbat, the men would toss back a shot of Rye and nibble on some Matjes herring. Now it seems shuls are having herring and scotch tastings, so apparently herring is in. Walking the streets of Amsterdam, we were amazed at all the Bloomberg’s Herring stands. Sort of the way up north’s version of French Fries. Sorta.
Santa Bremor offers matjes herring. A very fine example of matjes herring, we might add. Certified by the OK, these are the ne plus ultra of matjes herring.
Herring is good for you as it contains Vitamins A, D and B12, Selenium, Iodine, Phosphorus and Omega-3. That last one is very important for heart health as well as skin health, hair and nail health and cholesterol health.
So, go have a herring.
