My bubby was a great cook, but she frustrated our attempts to recreate her recipes. She was from the “mir schit arein (I throw in) school of cooking. We would ask her, “How much?” And she would either say a bissel (a little) or a pinch (even more little) or the famous Mir schit arein……

Engineers, on the other hand, are a breed apart.Ask an engineer for a recipe and you will get an entire sefer with foot notes, elevation observations, wind chill factors and just about anythng else that could affect the final end result of the recipe.

Well, recently we found the cooking for engineers web page. We love it. Ok, some of it is a bit nerdy, but most of it is just wonderful. In fact, they have a nifty chart that tells you what you can substitute for something when you are in the middle of a recipe and discover that the next ingredient you need is out of stock in your home.
