Run Away From Joy Restaurant In The Mamilla Mall

In January, two of us ate at Joy. We both ordered soup for an appetizer. The soup was served rather on the cool side. We both asked to have the kitchen reheat the soup. After ten minutes, the soup came back cooler than when we had sent it back. Clearly, no one had reheated it. We explained to our waitress, and she told us that it had been reheated. When we complained, she walked away.

We jump ahead to April 29,2018. Two of us were there for dinner. Our appetizers were amazing. Dinner, however, was not. We both ordered the entrecote. My dining companion was literally not able to slice her meat. Our piece was tough, but could be sliced with some difficulty. Having worked in a butcher store for a number of years, it was quite clear that the meat was not entrecote. Assuming that entrecote in Israel is the same rib steak cut as it is elsewhere, the meat was loaded with gristle which is unheard of in a rib steak. The two pieces also were very different in size.

Side dishes were half a carrot and a small baked potato. Both were tasty, but a little on the stingy side.

Our dining companion had her steak taken away, and replaced with a different dish. It took almost thirty minutes for a noodle dish to come out of the kitchen.

At the next table, a lady was presented with a beef medallion. She told the waitress that it was not hot, and the menu said it came with root vegetables. There were no root vegetables on her plate. She wanted the steak heated and the root vegetables put on her plate.

Three times, the wait staff brought back her plate, not once with root vegetables. By the third time, the beef was charred on the outside. One waiter walked away while the lady was explaining what she wanted.

She never got the root vegetables. Apparently, they must have run out of potatoes and carrots.

We gave them a second chance after the soup debacle in January. We won’t be going back.
