Gefen Pasta Sauce: Run Away, Please Don’t Stay, Mama Luca Booboo Day

We confess to being lazy when it comes to pasta sauce .  Here in Israel, we should not be so lazy as good pasta sauce is hard to find.  Even so, we buy sauce in the local markets.

Barilla- always good- is readily available here, but only in small jars which are expensive.  Before Pesach, we saw Gefen Pasta Sauce in large jars in a local super market. We stocked up.

Big mistake.  The first ingredient is water.  It might just as well be the only ingredient.  The sauce is watery.  There are no solids in the sauce.  In fact, it pretty much has no taste and no texture.  Unless you bathe your pasta in it, it just tints the pasta red instead of coating it.

As we said above, run away from buying that sauce.  Not that we would ever do this, but we would sooner put ketchup on the pasta than use this sauce.  And, as we said, we would never do that.

Bottom line: On a scale of one to ten, this rates a minus ten.

PS:  Yes, we know the song lyric in the title is not accurate.
