FROM BAKING WITH HONEY

5 things you never knew about honey
Think you’re the expert on honey? Well did you know:

Honey contains enzymes that help you digest food? It helps other bodily functions as well as providing a quick boost of energy from an all-natural source.

Honey never goes bad…ever, at least it won’t if you’re storing it in the right conditions. Honey was found preserved properly in Egyptian tombs and was still good enough to eat! How is this possible? How can food never spoil? It’s thanks to it’s high acidity and low moisture, which prohibits bacterial growth allowing it to remain edible forever.

The average worker bee produces about 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime and only lives for about 6 weeks. Talk about working to death! (Bonus fact: All worker bees are female).

Honey was in such high demand in the 11th century, that people were able to use it as currency to pay off debts! Although we might not use honey as a bartering tool now, it’s still in high demand.

Honey bees can fly incredibly fast at about 200 beats per second. That’s where the “buzz” sound comes from. They can also fly up to 15 miles per hour and up to six miles in distance.
