Dress Up Your Hot Dogs

Here are 3 ways you can add some zing to your 4th of July BBQ.

Pickled Onions

2 cups boiling water
2 large or 3 medium red onions, thinly sliced
1 cup vinegar
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt

Place sliced onions in boiling water for one minute
Drain water, place onions in container that you will use to store the pickled onions
Bring vinegar, sugar and salt to a simmer until sugar dissolves (about two minutes)
Pour vinegar mixture onto onions
Cover and refrigerate until ready to use

Hot Dog Relish Two Ways

Onion pickle relish

1 small onion, finely diced
10 dill pickles, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
4 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon lemon

Mix all ingredients and serve.

Sweet Pickle Relish

6 pickles
2 tablespoons vinegar
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
1/8th teaspoon pepper
¼ teaspoon mustard
3 tablespoons sugar
¼ teaspoon coriander
¼ teaspoon turmeric
¼ teaspoon celery seed
1 tablespoon honey

Drain, shred/finely chop pickles, and mix with remaining ingredients.
