Twenty years ago, Susan’s Gourmet was started as a public service to help immigrants to the USA enjoy their basic Middle Eastern favorite foods. Finding the various Syrian cheeses was essentially impossible- no one made them! What was once easily found in the Shuk, was sorely missing in America.
Fresh mozzarella curd is a staple of the Middle Eastern palate. It is used for “Mshalaleh” (string cheese) and is found in desserts such as Knaffe.
Susan began making her Syrian cheeses that were both kosher and chalav yisrael. Certification today is by the Star-K and the JSOR.
The company makes Syrian cheese that is fresh, white and salted. It has so many uses: bourekas, Sambusak, in quiches, and so much more. Try with fresh cut veggies, too.
Basket Cheese- so called because it is cured in a basket- comes in Jalapeno, Herbs and Zatar and more. MMMMM!
