ANJELICA

Some restaurants are just memorable for all the right things. Three of us ate at Anjelica’s tonight. It is a meat restaurant on Shatz St (a pedestrian mall off King George) and in the Metropolitan Hotel. Don’t let the hotel fool you- the restaurant is four stars!

We had a wonderful bottle of wine: Katlav: Merlot ’06. It was a great wine and we all agreed that it was extra special and well worth the cost.

Appetizers we had:
Beef cheek stuffed ravioli (one huge one) served in black truffle oil with pine nuts.

One of us had the sinta (sirloin) served with honey mustard and aioli and pickled vegetables. The meat was soft as the proverbial butter and served as several thin slices.

The third appetizer was a very large medallion of foie gras served with a pear marmalade sauce.

Dinners:

Sirloin cooked medium well, served with a black pepper sauce. Along side the meat (300 grams), we had al dente string beans and a potato dish.

Chicken Breast partially on the bone, served with Jerusalem artichokes and hot salad.

Fillet mignon served with al dente string beans and a dish of root vegetables served gratin style (of course with no cheese) with sweet potato, carrots, Jerusalem artichoke and leeks.

Bread was artisanal and fresh baked. Dipping oil and aioli were provided along with grilled vegetables. Water came with ice!

By the time dessert rolled around we were all stuffed so we split the chocolate hot lava cake.

Frankly, everything was to die for! We give it a Kosher Nexus Five Forks Award. Would we go there again? You bet!

Service was good and attentive without being stifling. Glasses were refilled and wine was poured by the sommolier.

All of the above came to a rather reasonable IS 650, or about $54 per person. For what we got, it was the biggest bargain in town. We sat and enjoyed our food, and no one rushed us. The meal itself was to die for, simply to die for.
