As we have stated many times, the Dan P is our Jerusalem home away from home. We are quite content to spend two weeks or even longer there. In fact, we have often commented to the management there that if we could, we would purchase a small apartment there. (Note: they don’t have any, so the point is moot.)
The hotel staff is unbelievably attentive to the needs of its guests. Reasonable requests at the front desk are always accommodated. Rooms are well appointed and quite comfortable. The beds are just the way we like them, the working desk is just large enough for our computer and various other electronic knick knacks.
The bathrooms in the rooms are kept spotless, and towels are replenished throughout the day as the need arises.
This time we stayed in an upper floor room and we were quite pleased to find freshly cut flowers in our room. The flowers were replaced from time to time so that we always had fresh flowers. The welcome to the room bottle of water, box of expensive chocolates, fresh fruit and a bottle of wine were all greatly appreciated.
We have stayed at the Dan P so many times, the staff there all know us by name (if not certainly by face). We feel as if the Dan P is like that fabled bar in the TV show: the place where everyone knows your name.
When we were last at the hotel in February (for three weeks!), we told them that our daughter was pregnant and that we would be back just as soon as the baby was born. Well, our first grandson was born in late July and off we went to Jerusalem for the bris, etc.
We sent a note to the hotel manager that we were pleased to announce the birth of the little boy and that we were on our way there. When we got there, the bell man said hello and wished us a mazal tov. We were a bit taken aback. When we reached the front desk, several department heads came out to say mazal tov and to welcome us back. And thus it went for the entire two weeks we were there. If all of Israel is family, then the Dan P is our closest family.
The kids came to Friday night dinner with the baby. By the next morning, several staff members who were not there the night before told us that they heard the baby is adorable. Wow! The news got around so fast! On Sunday morning, the manager of the hotel stopped by our breakfast table and said that he had heard that the baby was there on Shabbat. Nu? How can you not love that??
The food at the Dan P is always top flight food. We have never had anything there that we didn’t like. True, there are a few things on the menu there that we could do without, but then again, others probably say that about our taste.
We have said it before and we say it again: there are lots of hotels in Israel, but the Dan P is the only place we want to stay. It is our home in Israel.
