BURGER KING ON THE MIDROCHOV

For a while, the place only had an Ishur. Now they once again have a proper T’eudat Kashrut. The meat is not glatt. The veggies are heter mechira. The place is packed with people- a sea of kipot and head scarves. And lots of American kids in Israel for the summer. All in all, it is a joyful place filled with happy people.

Where else can you go and order a Vopper Gadol? Or King Schnitzel? Or any of the usual BK goodies? Never having been to a BK except the kosher one in Israel, we have no reference point, but we do know that we like the food. Plus, it is one of the few places in Israel where they actually have ice and are willing to give it to you!

It is not cheap! A double whopper with fries and a Coke (not us, by the way) came to NIS 45 (about $14.50). Our chicken salad was similarly not cheap. But we had a blast there! Caution: you have to ask for napkins some of the time (the counter staff is inconsistent). When we were there, the only place to wash was in the bathroom. Unfortunately for us, the upstairs was barricaded and the only washroom available was the handicapped bathroom- good for one person at a time only.

We went on a Friday afternoon for lunch and the place was mobbed. We heard French, Hebrew and lots of English (American, British and South African). We also saw lots of happy people enjoying American style fast food in a place that would otherwise be off limits in the States. Part of the appeal of the place is just that it is a kosher BK.

When you are on the Ben Yehuda midrochov and crave a burger, stop in and have yourself a Vopper!
