Four of us headed on over to 24 Emek Refaim for an amazing dinner at Joy Grill. We used to love eating at Joy Express- this is the grown up version.
When we got to the restaurant, it was mobbed. They offered to seat us in the outside dining room. It was totally enclosed with heavy plastic and there were plenty of heaters going. In fact, it was comfortably warm out there. Plus, unlike the interior of the restaurant which was crowded and noisy, we had a very quiet place to eat. Only one other table out there had people at it. All in all, the ambiance in the outer room was great.
And so was the food. The sweet potato chips served warm with maple syrup (we have written about them before in our posting re Joy Express) were quite tasty- a match of crisp and warm. The onion rings tempura were quite good, if a tad greasy. The fried kreplach were tasty and well prepared. The pumpkin soup was thin, but very good. The eggplant baladi was a huge hit- the son in law polished it off with a huge smile of satisfaction.
Our dinners were all excellent. Two of us had the house hamburger special. Consisting of a 250 gram piece of meat, it was served with lettuce, tomato and aoli. One of us had the St Peter’s fish, and he said it was absolute perfection. Our final dinner companion had the Chicken Cordon Blue. That was stuffed chicken breasts. The middle was broiled goose liver and mushrooms. Taam gan eden! It had a slight smokey edge to it which set off the chicken perfectly.
Service was fairly attentive and very accomodating. Water and napkins were resupplied with rapidity. The wait staff was attentive to our needs, and stopped at the table just often enough.
All in all, it was a wonderful meal that left all of us quite stuffed. In fact, none of us had dessert!
Dinner for four, with three appetizers, four dinners, two appetizers for the table, and one glass of wine came to just over NIS 500. We had a ten percent off coupon which they gladly accepted. Our final bill (sans tip) was NIS 455.
Would we go back? Certainly.
