A reader notified us that she had been in Cafe Muscat with three other people waiting for a table for 35 minutes when in walked a family who went over the maitre d’, said hello and schmoozed for a few minutes. All of a sudden, the maitre d’ spied a table being vacated and told the new comers that the table was theirs. Now, you may think that perhaps they had a reservation, but as this story turns out, they did not.

As the diners left the table, the pater familias of the new group walked over and claimed the table in front of the people who had been waiting for 35 minutes. After all, the maitre d’ had said the table was for them, right?

Our loyal reader complained and said that they had been waiting for 35 mintues. The maitre d’s said, “Well, they are already seated, what do you want me to do?” The four waiting people hit the ceiling. They complained loudly. They argued. They remonstrated. One of the group got more than just a little loud. The family that took the table remained oblivious to the whole thing, and ignored the outrage that swirled around them. They had the table and were not going to give it up!

In truth, had it been us, we would have left on the spot. But our four people stayed and stared at the maitre d’ until she finally got them a different table, where the service was lousy………………
