According to the NY Times (Weds, May 9, 2007- Food Section), down South, a big treat taking the southland by storm is the Kool Aide Pickle.
What is it (other than disgusting….)? They take garlic dill pickles, slice them in half lengthwise and soak them in double strength Kool Aide from the red flavors family, add one pound of sugar, shake and let them soak and “marinate” for a few days in the fridge. Voila! Sweetly sour, garlic dill pickles.
These red colored pickles are quite the treat down South. Schools sell them in the cafeteria. People eat them for a snack. And we are barfing at the idea!!!
Some places actually have a name for the product. They call them Koolickles. We call them YUCH!
Attention Deli Owners Whose Delis We Patronize: DON’T EVEN THINK OF OFFERING THIS PRODUCT. YOU WILL LOSE OUR BUSINESS IF WE EVEN SEE A JAR OF KOOLICKLES ON YOUR COUNTER.
