THIS IS THE DAWNING OF THE AGE OF AQUARIUS

FROM THE FEBRUARY 27 EDITION OF KOSHER TODAY:

It’s Official: Israir Now a Designated Airline for NY-TLV Route

(Tel Aviv) Israir will soon compete head-on with El Al for scheduled non-stop flight to Ben Gurion International Airport, just outside of Tel Aviv. This development follows El Al’s failure to convince Israel’s High Court to deny Israir the lucrative New York route. Israir’s scheduled service coupled with Delta’s new daily service from Atlanta scheduled to begin next month is likely to put a smile on travelers as the airline has already announced that it will charge 10-15% less than current ticket prices on this route.

The appeals claimed the existence of a government decision stipulating criteria for adding designated carriers on the Tel Aviv-New York route, and that these criteria had not been met. The state claimed that the appellants opposed competition, even at the expense of harming passengers and Israel’s economy. The state said the decision to allow Israir to compete for the route was correct following a surge in demand on the Tel Aviv-New York route, which had not been met by a suitable increase in supply. The state added that a shortage of seats had been created on the route, which caused passengers to be turned away, harming service, incoming tourism and Israel’s economy. The airlines are expected to engage in stiff competition for the kosher traveler.
