101 Ways to Cook a Chicken

February 20, 2004 at 4:11:21p.m.

But here it is, Shabbat closing in, and you’re wondering what to do with your chicken… so here are a few recipes. Please feel free to send in your own recipes too…

2. Sweet and Sour Chicken

What can be easier than this? Pour duck sauce over your chicken, bake for an hour (or until done) at 375 degrees.

3. Shake and Bake

There are lots of seasoned coating mixes out there – Shake ‘n’ Bake even makes a kosher one now, I believe. But, if you want to “shake your own”…

4. Basic Shake and Bake

Start with cornflake crumbs. Add the seasoning of your choice – any type of Mrs. Dash works well (and they’re salt-free, too). If you are lucky enough to get some Rib Rub from Bone Suckin’ Sauce, this is great. Mix everything together in a plastic bag. Add chicken pieces, one at a time, and shake until coated. Bake at 375 for an hour or until done.

5. Lemon Shake and Bake

Marinate the chicken in lemon juice for a while (have you noticed yet how scientific all these recipes are?). Add some grated lemon peel to the basic shake-and-bake coating (see above). The chicken will have a nice lemony tang.

Shabbat Shalom!
