YOU CAN FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME

Recently, in a weekly shabbat “magazine” printed by a Modern Orthodox organization contained a full page ad that said, “… Lag B’Omer is a day for segulot (propitious practice) for a shidduch, parnassa… Donated bottles of wine will accompany prayers at the grave of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai.”

The ad goes on to say that the wine will be brought back to Jerusalem in time to put into food baskets for victim families of terror for shabbat. The ad says to accompany your check with your full Hebrew name as well as the details of your request, i.e., for example a shidduch.

Here comes the amazing part. They want you to donate $800 to cover the purchase of 144 bottles of wine.

Understand, the would not pay for a full page ad unless they were fairly certain of the return on their investment. So, how many desperate people are there out who will shell out $800 for a phony thing? In fact, for a lot less money, one could probably buy a dispensation from the Church, and it would do about as much good.

We find this disgusting.
