STONYFIELD TO REDUCE SUGAR IN ITS PRODUCTS
Organic yogurt maker Stonyfield plans to reduce sugar across its entire portfolio. Its Stonyfield YoKids yogurt has already been reformulated to reduce sugar by 40 percent and it is working to lower the sugar in all of its offerings by the end of 2017. Stonyfield Smooth & Creamy varieties and lowfat Smoothies will have at least 25 percent less sugar, and all the brand’s yogurts will continue to be made with certified organic ingredients.
Stonyfield researched for two years to develop products that had reduced sugar, but did not sacrifice taste. Instead of simply using less sugar, which may have resulted in a yogurt that was too different from the original, Stonyfield made use of its library of culture strains to create a formula that reduces tartness and balances the sweetness of yogurt.
