EATING AT JOY ON EMEK REFAIM

The last time we ate at Joy, we had a meal truly worthy of a king. So, we went again. This time, it was with a friend and not with the “kids.”

The appetizer of breaded, liver stuffed mushrooms was superlative! The taste was sublime and we gobbled them all up!

For dinner, we had entrecote strips and entrecote on the bone. Entrecote is a fancy way to say rib steak.

The strips were stir fried and served over a bed of couscous. The stir fry sauce was a sweet and pungent ginger sauce. As stir fried meat goes, it was incredibly soft and incredibly tasty. As the kids would say, “soft as butta.” (That only works for NYC kids.)

The rib steak was very tasty but it was not a good piece of meat. It was quite tough in fact. Perhaps they had not aged it in the walk-in. Or perhaps it just was not good meat. The taste was good, but the toughness of the meat sort of killed the whole thing. It was served with potatoes rubbed with oil and thyme and baked in the oven. The thyme was a tad overwhelming, but on the whole, the potatoes were good. We also had string beans and frankly they were phenomenal. Cooked with whole pieces of garlic and coated with seeds, they were just the way we like them- al dente (and not killed, the way our mothers used to make them!)

The appetizer and the two dinners, one beer and one soda came to NIS 343. Not cheap by any means. The service was attentive and friendly. Just the meat was a BIG disappointment. We should have stayed with the large burger!
