Not only that but peanuts are not listed as litniyot (rather than possibly kitniyot) and Quinoa is listed as possibly kitniyot (and therefore not eaten). Says who? This is just wrong.

IIRC, the change on oils such as corn oil was precipitated by RYB Soloveitchik at an RCA convention when he stated that he changed his opinion about the permissibility of mei kitniyot. Since he was the posek for the RCA/OU, they changed their policy. Peanut oil was discontinued because of low sales -- people were confused as to how peanut oil was ok but not peanuts or corn oil. Very annoying. Cottonseed oil is really bad for you. Thank goodness Kof-K certifies Safflower oil for Pesach year round. It is found in the baking section, not in the Passover section.

As for glatt, the OU actually claims ludicrously that the market demanded glatt. Is Chalav Yisrael next? the sad fact is that the OU does in fact supervise production of non-glatt meat, they just don't certify it. When Rubashkin produced beef, OU non-glatt was sold as Davids and also Nathans kosher hot dogs, both under UMK, a widely accepted hechsher. I assume something similar is done at the other plants. But it is shechted and inspected by the OU and passes as kosher by the OU and only gets separated when the lung inspection determines if it is glatt or not.

The soggy sandwich is unconscionable. It indicates poor training of the staff.

The tough meat may be due to the collapse of Rubashkin. The Kosher Store used to get its meats from Rubashkin. When that supplier collapsed, no doubt the Kosher Store was scrambling for other sources. Perhaps their new supplier was not as good. When one is left standing in the snow without a coat, the urgency of the moment prompts a snap decision that may be regretted later.

Perhaps a kosher slaughterhouse would like to relocate to Texas. We certainly have enough cattle. Westinghouse used to run cattle on the front lawn of their facility in north Austin. :-)
