THE WELL-DRESSED SALAD, part 2

OK, there’s no way I can argue with peanut-butter/chocolate pie (although my feeling is, why ruin the chocolate with that peanut butter?)

But let’s just say you want to have, say, a salad before the pie. Here are a few more dressing possibilities – some healthy, and some, well…

NASOYA (800-VITASOY) has soy-based salad dressings that aren’t fat-free, but are relatively reasonable in that regard. OU-pareve offerings include creamy dill, garden herb, Thousand Island, creamy Italian, and sesame garlic.

BLANCHARD & BLANCHARD in Vermont (800-334-0268) offers OU-pareve low-fat Russian tomato, country Italian, and honey Dijon dressings. Their “mainstream” dressings are far from low-fat, however, with up to 12 g fat per 2T serving. For this price, so to speak, you can choose from tomato basil vinaigrette, toasted sesame seed garlic, Northern Italian, lemon pepper vinaigrette, and sesame soy ginger vinaigrette (all OU-pareve).

But those aren’t the winners in the high-fat stakes, folks. Check out JOEY D’s Chinese Chicken Salad Dressing & Marinade. OK, this is a good idea (actually, it’s under the Kof-K, not the OK). But c’mon, 15 grams of fat in one 2T serving? That’s 150 calories, folks! (that’s in the “creamy” dressing; the “original” one has “only” 11 grams of fat and 120 calories). Thanks, but I think I’ll keep my chicken salad nude.
