Heinz® Ketchup Brings Back Iconic Glass Bottles to Stores for a Limited Time

New Vintage-Inspired Design for America’s Favorite Ketchup®

PITTSBURGH–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today Heinz brings back an American icon with the launch of a new collector’s edition of Heinz Tomato Ketchup, available in classic glass bottles. While the glass bottles can be found in thousands of restaurants across the country, they have been absent from store shelves for more than 10 years and are now back for a limited time. The limited edition glass bottle of Heinz Tomato Ketchup features a vintage-inspired design to bring some nostalgia to the summer barbecue season. The product will be available now through August at select retailers nationwide.

A Classic Returns

Like catching fireflies and swinging on tire swings, backyard barbecues recall memories of timeless summertime fun. Families have enjoyed Heinz Ketchup with meals for decades and the original glass bottle has become part of the cultural fabric of our country, although the bottles have not been sold at retail for more than 10 years.

“While the convenience of our current, squeezable bottles found in grocery stores has been a hit with today’s families and their lifestyles, consumers still associate Heinz Ketchup with our iconic glass bottle and routinely ask where they can find them,” Noel Geoffroy, Vice President of Heinz Brands said. “In response to that consumer demand and to inspire memories of and relive good times from summers past, we wanted to bring back the glass bottle with a limited edition design that gives a nod to the product’s 135-year history.”

Capturing the essence and heritage of the Heinz Ketchup brand, the label design of the new limited edition glass bottle was inspired by a vintage packet of tomato seeds. The bottle contains America’s Favorite Heinz Tomato Ketchup which is “Grown, Not Made®” from only the firmest, juiciest, freshest tomatoes that are grown from Heinz seeds by only a select group of trusted farmers. The relationships Heinz has developed with its farmers spans several generations and dates back nearly four decades.

History of Glass Bottles

When Heinz Tomato Ketchup was first introduced in 1876, it was bottled in clear glass to reveal its purity. It was not until several years later that the world-famous octagonal bottle debuted. The glass bottle was sold in stores until the 1990s, when it was replaced with the squeezable plastic bottle that was first introduced in 1983.

Availability & Pricing

Limited Edition Glass Bottle Heinz Tomato Ketchup will be available in a 14 oz. bottle for $1.99 suggested retail price at select retailers including Walmart and Safeway from now through August 2011. Please check stores for availability.
