KOSHER CONSUMERS WIN AT WINN-DIXIE

A handful of Winn-Dixie supermarkets are expanding their kosher selection by offering fruits and filleted fish.

“We’re trying to meet the needs of the community,” said Deborah Shapiro, specialty foods category manager.

The three stores with expanded kosher options are: 7015 N. University Drive in Tamarac; 7024 Beracasa Way in Boca Raton; and 20417 Biscayne Blvd. in Aventura.

The offerings vary by store, but Shapiro said the fruit selections are expected to be melons, such as watermelon and cantaloupe. A fish staple should be salmon, and some stores will also offer flounder.

All food is under the supervision of the Orthodox Rabbinical Board in the Boca Raton and Tamarac stores.

Winn-Dixie’s kosher selection already includes pareve cookies and crackers, kosher meats, broth and Israeli products, such as grape leaves and other spices.
