THEY FINALLY CAUGHT ON!

April 26th, 2007

First there was Kabalah water. Sold at a price high enough to bring pain, some people were actually caught up in the whole thing and no doubt did buy the water. Now, another group has caught on and is promoting their own brand of religious water. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A KOSHER PRODUCT.

From 1in3 Trinity comes a new water drink. The company is known for its Christian clothing line (no, we don’t know what that means, either), but have now joined the energy water market.

According to the company, 1in3 Trinity Energy Water is made of a “special blend from the flourishing vines and trees of the holy land, mixed with B vitamins, vitamin C, herbs and antioxidants.” The company says the water tastes like pomegranate and grape.
*********
If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, couldn’t they have found something better to copy????

Finally, we have to say: whoda thunk it- Jewish water, Christian water: what’s next?

CHOCOLATE AND YOUR GOOD HEALTH

April 25th, 2007

NEW YORK, April 21, 2007
——————————————————————————–
Researchers say a little bit of chocolate really can make you feel better. (CBS / iStock Photo)

(CBS) Who hasn’t been heartened — literally — with the news from scientists that chocolate is more than just a treat?

New studies show that chocolate and its key ingredient, cocoa, have some major health benefits. In its purest form, chocolate can lower blood pressure, help muscles recover from exercise, improve skin, provide antioxidants and even give us a thrill that rivals a passionate kiss.

However, Health magazine senior food and nutrition editor Frances Largeman-Roth warns that this isn’t license to binge.

On “The Saturday Early Show,” Largeman-Roth points out that the average bar of dark chocolate — the kind that has the most health benefits — has around 400 calories … “and if the bar has any nuts or caramel in it, it’ll cost you more” calorie-wise, she adds.

Her advice: “The best thing to do is savor a small piece of really good chocolate.”

If you’re able to restrict yourself to a small daily dose, you’ll experience some heart-healthy benefits.

“Cocoa improves blood flow, makes blood platelets less sticky — which helps prevent clotting — and also has a positive effect on bad cholesterol. This is due to the antioxidant effect of cocoa, which helps reduce inflammation, which we now understand to be the root of many diseases,” she tells CBS News.

Another recent eye-opening study, this one by German researchers, showed that women who drank a half-cup of enriched cocoa every day for three months developed skin that was smoother and had more moisture. Furthermore, the women’s skin was less scaly and red after it was exposed to ultraviolet light.

“It is surprising, especially after all those stories about chocolate making you break out,” says Largeman-Roth. “It turns out that the flavonoids in chocolate help protect the skin and increase blood flow, which makes it look more refreshed and smooth.”

Most recently, British researchers reporting finding that people get more of a buzz from eating chocolate than from a passionate kiss.

“The researchers put electrodes on young couples in their 20s and tested their heart rate and brain activity while eating dark chocolate and then while kissing their sweeties,” says Largeman-Roth.

“Surprisingly, heart rate and brain activity both increased far more with the chocolate than with the kissing. And actually, all areas of the brain were stimulated when the chocolate melted on their tongues. Kissing did increase the heart rate, but not for as long.”

One word of caution: white chocolate, though delicious, doesn’t pack any kind of healthy punch because it doesn’t have any cocoa solids, the ingredient that makes dark chocolate so magical.

And some studies were based on having participants eating three or more ounces a day, a heavy caloric load. “But the good news,” says Largeman-Roth, “is that researchers say you don’t need to eat that much to have an effect — even a bit of chocolate a day can do some good.”

MORE CARRIERS TO GO DIRECT TO ISRAEL FROM THE USA

April 24th, 2007

THIS ARTICLE COMES FROM KOSHER TODAY, MONDAY, APRIL 23, 2007

US Carriers Vow to Increase Service to Tel Aviv
Boston… Officials at Boston’s Logan Airport are making a strong pitch for the resumption of direct service to Tel Aviv by El Al. The news came as Delta Airlines announced that it will inaugurate daily, non-stop service from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport to Tel Aviv starting next March, becoming the only U.S. airline to fly direct to Israel from JFK. The airline was very much encouraged by its successful daily non-stop service from Atlanta. It promised kosher fare and a Hebrew speaking crew. There was also an unconfirmed report that Continental Airlines would expand its service with a new non-stop from Houston to add to their successful Newark – Tel Aviv flights. “Tel Aviv is the sixth largest market across the Atlantic and it is a natural fit for our customers,” notes Frank Jahangir, Delta’s vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We are pleased to further connect Israel to our global network from New York.”

The news of the incresaed competition could not have come at a worse time for El Al as it reels from a $44 million loss in 2006. The loss is responsible for growing tensions with its labor force. In addition to demanding $22 million in cuts, El Al is threatening to cancel the company’s collective labor agreement if the union does not sign soon. In an attempt to implement an “open skies” policy, the Transportation Ministry said it will present the government with a reform plan aimed at boosting competition, allowing the entry of new carriers into the Israeli market and lowering airfares. “Israel’s true interest is to create competition between the Israeli companies to give them the possibility to compete with each other as well as bring down ticket prices. The Israelis will benefit, and those companies will grow as well,” said Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz at a press conference in Tel Aviv. ************ Wouldn’t it be nice if all this adds up to more comfortable seats, crews that are not surly, food that is served with a smile instead of a snarl, and a happier flight experience? Well, here’s hoping!
