Consumers Encouraged to Learn About the Metabolic Benefits of Green Tea
RYE BROOK, N.Y., July 20 /PRNewswire/ — Snapple, makers of The Best Stuff on Earth, today launches Snapple Green Teas, a collection of authentic green teas that contain the natural antioxidant EGCG and helps boost metabolism. Snapple’s new Green Tea has the most EGCG, with 55mg per bottle, compared to leading ready-to-drink green teas, and is the second in a line of new products that support a “good for you” platform from which the brand will inform and inspire consumers about the health benefits of tea.

“The development of Green Teas with EGCG is an important one, as consumers look for more out of their foods and beverages. They want pure, all-natural, high quality ingredients with great taste and real functional benefits — Snapple Green Tea is a perfect fit,” said Holly Mensch, Vice President of Marketing for Snapple. “Less than a third of consumers are aware of EGCG, and only 5% know that consuming green tea can boost metabolism.”

Snapple Green Teas are authentic, all natural teas available in original, mango and asian pear flavors. New Snapple Green Teas are made with real sugar — but less of it, so it’s more refreshing and maintains its natural, healthy goodness.

Green Tea is currently a fast growing segment for the ready-to-drink Iced Tea category, due in large part to consumer perception that Green Tea is the “healthiest” tea. Its apparent “good health” effects have been documented in the media, from lowering overall cholesterol levels to helping protect against cancers. Studies of green tea consumption indicate that consuming 300mg of EGCG throughout the day boosts metabolism.

Snapple Green Tea will be available at major retailers, grocery and convenience stores nationwide in August 2006. It will be sold in 17.5 ounce bottles for a suggested retail price of $1.39. Snapple will also be rolling out a premium Diet Green Tea in September. To learn more about Snapple visit http://www.snapple.com.
