THE CASE OF THE PURLOINED GARBANZO BEANS

The following story appeared in Kosher Today this week:

CHICK PEA HEIST ON ISRAELI KIBBUTZ

(Kibbutz Einat) 70 tons of kibbutz grown chickpeas, used primarily for making the popular hummus spread, have been stolen from Kibbutz Einat in the Sharon region. The stolen goods are estimated at a value of $50,000 dollars. One of the kibbutz field workers began the seasonal harvest, storing the peas in large containers left in the fields. Masked thieves overcame the security guard posted there and tied him up. Liel Tayar, Field Manager at Kibbutz Einat told Ynet that every year the chickpeas are harvested at this time. They even hired a guard to protect the containers before transporting the containers to their buyers. However, early in the morning they discovered the guard tied up and the containers gone. Tayar added that the thieves are no doubt selling the stolen chick peas both in the Palestinian territories and in Israel. The farmers at the kibbutz will continue their harvest but the containers will be placed under lock and key. Police have no suspects in the unusual case.

Seventy tons of chick peas? Seventy tons??? Police should be able to find the thieves just by listening for them!!
