A LITTLE CULTURE, A LITTLE LUNCH…

Posted on July 17, 2004

After catching the Modigliani exhibit at New York’s Jewish Museum last week with Sharon V. (KN Blog commenter, who’s visiting from Israel), we stopped for lunch at the museum’s Cafe Weissman (named for the people who donated the space). It’s a great place to go for a nice, relatively inexpensive (nothing over $9.50) light lunch. Continue Reading »

Posted on July 15, 2004

Our friend Jon over on Kosher Blog (www.kosherblog.net) recently put up his “Wish List.” We think he raises some excellent points. We asked (and received) permission to reproduce some of his list here: “The Wish List 2004 Here’s our first stab at a list of the top products and initiatives we’d like to see made Continue Reading »

Posted on July 14, 2004

It ain’t only mama’s little children who love shortening bread (see yesterday’s entry); we do, too! There is little that can beat the convenience of picking up a package of Walkers Pure Butter Short Bread or even the Almond Short Bread. In short, we love shortening bread. Just today, we had the chance to try Continue Reading »

OILS WELL THAT ENDS WELL

Posted on July 12, 2004

Remember Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys? They were one of our fave groups. With hits such as “They ain’t makin Jews like Jesus anymore” and other western ditties, they were a most fascinating flash in the pan. Kinky became a big time, hot shot writer, and with the help of Don Imus has managed Continue Reading »

IT’S A FACT, JACK!

Here is the latest in food news: White tea edges out green tea in the healing properties department. Yes, it is true. While green tea is known for its healing properties, white tea can even destroy in vitro the organisms that cause disease. Wow! Look closely at the seedless red grapes in your supermarket. Many Continue Reading »

THE WELL-DRESSED SALAD, part 2

Posted on July 9, 2004

OK, there’s no way I can argue with peanut-butter/chocolate pie (although my feeling is, why ruin the chocolate with that peanut butter?) But let’s just say you want to have, say, a salad before the pie. Here are a few more dressing possibilities – some healthy, and some, well… NASOYA (800-VITASOY) has soy-based salad dressings Continue Reading »

PEANUT BUTTER RECIPE FOR HOT SUMMER DAYS

Posted on July 8, 2004

Two of our favorite food groups are peanut butter and chocolate. Put those two together, add a little whipped topping, and, “Heaven, we’re in heaven….” Here is one of our fave peanut butter recipes: NO BAKE PEANUT BUTTER PIE Ingredients 4 ounces cream cheese 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, sifted 1 cup crunchy peanut butter 1/2 Continue Reading »

Posted on July 7, 2004

How many times have you sighed in frustration and said, “Oh, if only I had a can of almond paste/pistachio paste/marzipan/almond butter, I could bake some really neat stuff?” Yeah, not us either. BUT, if indeed the lack of said things did stand in your way, you will be thrilled to know, “not no more!” Continue Reading »
